San Francisco Unified School District third-grade students from Francis Scott Key and Monroe Elementary Schools, vocals Long Time Passing features new arrangements of 13 songs written or popularized by Seeger or his band the Weavers, as well as an original composition entitled “Storyteller” by Jacob Garchik (who also arranged most of the songs) that features archival recordings that were gathered with help from Library of Congress’ American Folklife Center reference archivist Todd Harvey. Commissioned by the FreshGrass Foundation to celebrate Seeger’s centennial birthday in 2019, the songs collected here were debuted in a series of concerts in San Francisco, Barcelona, and other locations, culminating in the world premiere of the full multi-artist program at the 2019 FreshGrass Festival at MASSMoCA in North Adams, Massachusetts.

In 1952, The Weavers went on hiatus due to the Red Scare Seeger and Hays both had Communist ties. After People's Songs, Seeger and another former member of the Almanacs, Lee Hays, founded the Weavers, who achieved commercial success. Seeger would play at People's Songs events, called hootenannies, until the organization folded in 1949. He published several singles and a studio album with the magazine. After the end of World War II in 1945, Seeger helped found an organization known as People's Songs, along with the influential folk music magazine People's Songs Bulletin. He stayed with the group for two years until he was drafted into the Army to fight in the Second World War. Seeger's musical career started in 1940 when he joined The Almanac Singers. The discography of Pete Seeger, an American folk singer, consists of 52 studio albums, 23 compilation albums, 22 live albums, and 31 singles.
